Biological indicator 3M™ Attest™ 1264, for gas ethylene oxide sterilization

3M™ Attest™ Biological Indicators for Ethylene Oxide Sterilization, together with the 3M™ Attest™ Biological Indicator Incubator for Ethylene Oxide Sterilization, are used to monitor the effectiveness of the gas sterilization process of medical devices in 3M™ Steri-Vac™ low-temperature gas sterilizers.

With the help of biological indicators, the real fact of the death of microbial spores in the sterilizer chamber is confirmed.

The biological indicator 3M™ Attest™ is a self-contained plastic case that contains a glass sealed ampoule with a nutrient medium and a strip with a dosed amount of spores of the Bacillus Subtilis var. niger.

After completion of the sterilization process, the case is kept in a conventional thermostat or incubator at a temperature of 37 ° C or 56 ° C and the result is evaluated visually by a clear change in the color of the nutrient medium.

Table of characteristics of biological indicators for gas sterilization:

vendor code Type of sterilization Gas Incubation temperature (°C) Incubation time (hours) Quantity in a package (pcs.)
1264 Gas Ethylene oxide 37; 56 48 100

Incubation Instructions:

Place the 3M™ Attest™ indicator with the bottom of the case into the cell of the metal block with the cap up. When pressed with force down on the cover of the case, the inner glass ampoule with the nutrient medium breaks and the indicator is activated.

Be sure to ensure that the indicator and the inner ampoule cool below the incubation temperature (the tube must cool in air for at least 10 minutes). In order to avoid getting the nutrient medium on the filter after the destruction of the glass ampoule, the indicator can only be held upside down with the cap. In the metal block, the indicator should be placed with the cap up at an angle of 45°.

When incubating, place another unsterilized indicator in the incubator from the same batch (batch) and the same production date as the incubated sterilized indicator.

The purpose of incubation of the raw (initial) indicator is:

  • control of the correctness of the incubation conditions;
  • checking the viability of spores in the indicators of this lot;
  • checking the suitability of the nutrient medium for the growth of microorganisms of this species.

Already after 12-24 hours you can get preliminary results of the control, but the final conclusion about the results of the control should be made only after 48 hours of incubation.
