Vikram Suture is a synthetic absorbable sterile suture made from a copolymer that is 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The empirical formula of the copolymer is (C2H2O2) m (C3H4O2) n. Suture material Vicryl (1 0, 4 0, with a needle, without a needle) is intended for approximation of soft tissues, including use in eye surgery, in anastomosis of peripheral nerves and in microsurgery on vessels less than 2 mm in diameter. The safety and effectiveness of using Vikram suture materials in cardiovascular surgery has not been established.

Vicryl (English Vicryl) is a multifilament suture produced by the company "Ethicon Endo-Surgery", a division of "Johnson & Johnson", is made of a synthetic copolymer consisting of 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide. The empirical formula of the copolymer is (C2H2O2) m (C3H4O2) n. It has a coating of the same copolymer in combination with calcium stearate. The material was developed as a synthetic substitute for catgut.

The breaking strength of the sutures changes during the time of stay in the wound, being 65% by the 14th day, on the 21st day it is equal to 40% for sutures of thickness 6/0 and 30% for sutures of thickness 7/0 and thinner. Complete resorption occurs in 56-70 days.

There is also a similar material, Vicryl Rapide (English Vicryl Rapide), which is made of the same polymer, but undergoes additional processing with gamma radiation. Due to this, ruptures of polymer molecules occur, the strength of the material decreases and its absorption is accelerated. Tensile strength is 50% by the 5th day and decreases to zero by the 12th day. Complete absorption occurs in 42 days.
