Vicryl (Vicryl) Polyglactin 910 is a synthetic absorbable suture material that is widely used for approximation of soft tissues and ligatures, including ophthalmic operations, for suturing peripheral nerves, as well as in microsurgery for suturing blood vessels. Polyfilament thread has good manipulation properties and reliably fixes knots.
The process of absorption occurs by hydrolysis. Due to the hydrolysis reaction, the tensile strength of Vicryl thread decreases during the period of implantation in the wound. Resorption of Vicryl usually occurs between 56 and 70 days. Surgical needles are mainly made of a special ETHALLOY alloy, which provides 40% greater resistance to deformation, compared to ordinary surgical steel. Many needles have longitudinal notches on the body, which ensures reliable fixation of the needle in the needle holder and makes it possible to work even in limited access.
