A Fogarty catheter is an instrument designed to remove blood clots and emboli from blood vessels.
The embolectomy and thrombectomy catheter is made of a special polymer "Peebax" (a combination of polyamide and polyurethane), this material is non-toxic, biologically inert, durable, resistant to bending, with low thrombogenicity.
The polymeric catheter for embolectomy and thrombectomy ends blindly, with a soft atraumatic tip, which reduces the risk of vessel damage. There is a latex balloon at the end of the tube. The balloon is made of latex and additionally secured with silk thread. Proximally, the catheter is connected to the syringe with a Luer connector.
The Fogarty catheter is equipped with a metal guidewire, which facilitates the passage of the catheter into the lumen of the vessel. The entire length of the catheter is marked with an interval of 5 cm. When deflated, it advances to the site of the thrombus with the help of a tube, then the balloon is inflated, and the Fogarty catheter is removed along with the thrombus.
